Taking a Risk

Author: Robert Prentice

I am a risk taker. I am one who, for some reason, has always had the courage to stick my neck out just a little bit. Of course, there are times when I have nearly gotten it chopped off. No doubt, sometimes I have failed because of my risk taking. Yet, overall, I can see that success is becoming more and more commonplace for me, and I believe it is due, in part, to my willingness to take a risk every now and then. I know for a fact that my risk taking has become a real confidence builder for me in every area of my life.

How about you? Maybe youre a risk taker, like me, or perhaps youre one who shies away from taking risks out of fear. The fact is, if you desire more self-confidence in your daily living, youve got to be willing to take some risks. Think of all the benefits that can come from having greater self-confidence. With greater confidence you might build a business, or write a song, or write a book, speak in front of a group, raise a family, or even walk on the moon. We are able to reach farther and accomplish more in life when we possess a greater confidence that comes with the willingness and ability to take risks.

You dont have to start big. I recommend you start by taking small, well thought out, and calculated risks over time. Be willing to jump out of your comfort zones into a new realm of possibility whenever opportunity comes. Like an Olympic pole-vaulter, you need to jump like everything depends on that single moment. Of course, to make a successful jump requires proper planning, training and coaching. Find a mentor to come along beside you to coach and train you and be there to correct, shift you, and cheer you on when you most need it.

When you are actively taking risks you probably will fall down and skin your knees some. You will experience pain, and maybe embarrassment and humiliation. This is a vital part of the learning process. Your coach and mentor will be there to pick you up and dust you off and get you pointed in the right direction again. Be of good courage! You will heal and you will soon discover the joy of overcoming the fear and pain as you soar to new heights.

Be looking for opportunities this week that have the potential to build your confidence level. Be willing to take some risks and jump out of your comfort zone. I dare you!
